This is a book of photographs, with spare commentary. Nevertheless, this book is the only one of its kind (as far as as I can find) which offers any historical bacground of the small local area that it covers. Beginning in the late 1790s, English Quakers moving west from New England arrived, and as the 1800s progressed, waves of German and Italian immigrants followed, seeking political and economic stability.
